The Event

Mother’s Day can be a complicated holiday. These emotional challenges can be even more difficult when unhoused or confronting income instability. In 2016, Lacewing joined forces with a friend (who had recently lost her mother) to figure out a way to reclaim and give back during this difficult holiday.

Thus, Petals with Purpose was created.

Each year we partner with a shelter/housing program that supports women and families facing homelessness. With generous support from the Seattle Wholesale Growers Market, we obtain an abundance of locally grown florals and greenery which is then provided to shelter participants. Participants make bouquets for themselves, another participant or loved ones in celebration of the day. Volunteers from Seattle Works are on site to help distribute florals and vases, support shelter participants in their creative process, lead activities at the kid’s table and more. Each year around 100 bouquets are created and distributed by and for participants! The event usually takes place the Saturday prior to Mother’s Day.
